The First Years Via 1450 Infant Carseat, Urban Life Review

Parents that are looking for an infant seat that is easy to use The First Years Via 1450 Infant Carseat is the perfect choice. This car seat is so simple to use that it has received a five star rating in the ease of use section from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. The five-point harness is designed to help keep baby safe, but the manufacturers of this car seat have gone a few steps further.

One of the biggest problems with car seat sis adjusting the five-point harness, parents have to unthread the straps in order to make any necessary adjustments. With this car seat, the manufacturers made it to where parents can adjust the harness as baby grows without having to take the harness apart. Even better is the fact that the harness can be adjusted with just one hand.

Installing the base of this car seat is another perfect example of how easy it is to use. The base has two separate LATCH attachment points, but also comes with built in lock offs, which these make installing the base a snap. The base will easily fit into the backseat of most cars’ today due to its ability to be adjusted to four different positions. The angle indicator located on the side of the seat makes it easy to tell if the base is in the right position.

Pros:

  • Triple layer padding. One drawback to many infant car seats is that they never have enough padding to keep baby comfortable, they always seem to fall just a little short. The First Years Via 1450 comes with three layers of padding to help make it one of the most comfortable car seats on the market.
  • Easy off pad. Having a baby means messy spills, including spit up, in the car seat. Just the thought of having to take a car seat apart makes me cringe, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out how easy this one was to clean. The pad snaps on and off to make cleaning up a breeze, no more worries about unthreading and rethreading the harness just to wash the pad.
  • Compatible with First Years Wave and Indigo Strollers. Many parents are looking for an infant car seat that sits directly on top of a stroller, but they don’t want to pay for a travel system. The First Years Via 1450 is designed to work with both the Wave and Indigo Strollers made by The First Years. This is really nice for parents looking to upgrade the car seat but not the stroller.
  • Deep side wings. This car seat is made with deep side wings to help protect baby during a collision. The deep side wings provide side impact collision protection because they help prevent baby from falling over the side of the car seat.

Cons:

  • Headrest moves too easily. The only problem that I have had with this car seat is that the headrest that is designed to be used with newborns moves too easy. It is constantly sliding down on its own. To help fix the problem I used some Velcro to hold it in place.

The First Years Via 1450 is the perfect car seat for parents who are looking for one that is easy to use and easy to carry. Once the base is installed inside the car, parents can take the car seat off the base with just one hand. The best part is that you get all of these outstanding features at an affordable price.

Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 Review

For parents who are looking for one of the safest car seats on the market the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 is the best choice. This car seat actually exceeds all of the toughest safety standards in the world, so parents can rest assured that their baby is safe when traveling. The car seat is one of the safest ones available because it is specially designed to protect baby’s head and body from all angles.

The five-point harness and reinforced frame adds additional peace of mind for parents who are extremely worried about safety. This car seat can is a great choice for bigger and heavier babies. The car seat can be used with babies between five and thirty pounds, but fits babies up to 30 inches long. Many rear facing infant seats are only designed to be used with infants up to twenty-two pounds, so before they are even six months old mom and dad have to buy a new car seat.

Pros:

  • Large adjustable canopy. Most infant carriers today come with an adjustable canopy to help protect baby from the elements, but the problem is they are usually on the small side. The Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 comes with a larger canopy so parents know that their baby will be shielded from all types of weather.
  • Removable plush pad for newborns. Newborns are so small and have no muscle tone, so they must be supported in some way for the first few months of their life. This car seat comes with a removable plush pad for newborns to help keep them supported and comfortable. The pad can be removed as soon as baby outgrows it.
  • Comfort-dry microfiber fabric. Infants are going to make a mess in their car seat, whether it is from exploding diapers, spit up, or even spilled bottles. Having to take the car seat apart to wash everything can often be a pain, especially if it is a small mess. The comfort-dry microfiber fabric is easy to simply wipe clean, but can also be removed and washed if needed.
  • Side Impact Protection wings. These impact protection wings are padded to help keep baby safe in the event of a crash. Many people complain that these are like horse blinders, but they are an amazing feature to have. The wings help keep baby tucked safely inside the car seat, but at the same time provide impact protection. Not to mention the impact protection wings move with the seat back to five different height positions.

Cons:

  • Heavier than other car seats. I have lifted many car seats in my years as a mother and as a certified child safety passenger technician, so I will say that this one is a bit heavier than others, but not the heaviest by far. I personally don’t mind the heaviness of the car seat because it me it means that the car seat is solid and not flimsy.

The Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 is one of the pricier ones on the market today, but it is worth it to help keep baby safe. Not only is the car seat one of the safest ones around it is also very easy to use, it snaps in and out of the base quite easily. This car seat also works with any Peg Perego strollers, so it is definitely worth the price if not for the peace of mind alone.

Safety 1st Designer 22 Infant Car Seat, Nordica Review

The Safety 1st Designer 22 Infant Car Seat is one that I recommend to parents who are looking for a safe car seat that is also stylish. I used this car seat with my youngest child and have never been happier. The car seat is simple to install, and the base stays inside the car so parents can easily take baby in and out of the car. Not to mention hat everywhere I went I had other parents telling me how cute they thought the car seat was.

The Safety 1st Designer 22 is designed to be used with infants from 5 pounds to 22 pounds in a rear-facing position only. My daughter is currently nine months old and is still using the car seat, and fits quite well I might add. The five-point harness provides me with the peace of mind to know that my child is secured safely in the car seat in the event of a collision.

Pros:

  • Upfront harness adjustment. One of the worst things about some rear-facing infant car seats is adjusting the straps so baby can fit comfortable. Many infant car seats require you to undo the harness from the back to adjust the front. The Designer 22 can easily be adjusted with one hand from the front of the car seat.
  • Side Impact Protection. Many car seats talk about how well the car seat will stay in place during a collision, especially with the LATCH system in place. The Designer 22 comes equipped with side impact protection, which gives me peace of mind. Most people are worried about a head-on collision, but forget that side impact collisions can be just as dangerous.
  • 2 buckle positions. As baby grows, it can be hard to buckle the car seat because of how the bucket falls back underneath baby. This car seat allows parents to adjust the position of the buckle to help ensure the five-point harness fits perfectly for.
  • 3 position base. With other car seats, many parents have a hard time getting the base to fit inside the car, especially smaller cars. To help solve this problem the Designer 22 comes with a 3-position base that allows parents to adjust it so it fits perfectly inside the car.

Cons:

  • Have to take the harness apart to adjust the height. I love the fact that the car seat comes with 4 different height adjustments because it allows me to fit the car seat to baby as they grow. The different height adjustment ensures that the car seat straps are always coming over the shoulders rather than from below the shoulders for a proper fit. The only drawback to this is that I have to take the 5-point harness apart to adjust the height.

The Safety 1st Designer 22 Infant Car Seat is one of the best car seats on the market. The car seat provides parents with the features needed to keep their little one safe, while still having a cute design. Not to mention you aren’t spending an arm and a leg for the great safety features, as you do with other similar car seats.

Price Alert: Right now Amazon.com is offering free shipping for the Safety 1st Designer 22 Infant Car Seat.

Graco SnugRide Infant Car Seat Review

The Graco SnugRide Infant Car Seat is one of the top car seats on the market. For parents who are looking for a safe and secure car seat the SnugRide lives up to the Graco name. Graco has long been known for making high quality products that are supposed to keep baby safe. After years of installing car seats, I have to say that the Graco SnugRide is one of the best around.

One of the best features of the car seat is the five-point harness that is designed to keep baby safe. The car seat also comes equipped with a base that stays inside the car, so parents can easily transport baby from the house to the car without having to take them out of the car seat. The Graco SnugRide also comes equipped with a canopy that helps protect baby from the harsh rays of the sun and the wetness of the pouring rain.

Pros:

  • Infant head rest. Many infants, especially newborns, don’t fit properly into the car seat or they flop side to side. The SnugRide comes with an infant headrest that is designed to add both comfort and support. The headrest can also be taken out once baby gets bigger because as they grow the headrest often gets in the way.
  • Energy absorbing foam. The “EPS” energy absorbing foam liner is designed to help keep baby safe in the event of a car crash. The foam is designed to absorb the impact from a side collision because it cushions baby as they are rocked to the side due to the force of the car being hit.
  • All weather boot. The SnugRide comes with an all weather boot that is designed to keep baby warm and dry no matter what the weather. This all weather boot is an added bonus because parents no longer have to worry about purchasing a separate car seat cover to shield baby from the rain or the cold.
  • GracoPedic Foam. The GracoPedic Foam comes with this car seat to give it some added comfort. The foam is found underneath the washable cover to provide baby with that extra cushion. This helps makes car rides enjoyable for mom and baby because every little jolt doesn’t send a plastic piece digging into baby’s small body.
  • Fits nicely into shopping carts. For parents who like putting their baby on top of the shopping cart while still strapped into their car seat the SnugRide is the perfect fit. The car seat easily attaches to most shopping carts, which leaves you with plenty of room for groceries.

Cons:

  • Chest harness rather difficult to open. The worst thing I can find with this car seat is how difficult the chest strap is to open, which makes getting baby in and out of the car seat a bit of a challenge. The chest strap is rather small, so men have a harder time opening, but it is also stiff so women have a hard time getting it to open. I think that after a few uses the stiffness will work itself out though.

The Graco SnugRide is a great rear facing car seat. The car seat can be used with infants weighing 5 pounds up to 22 pounds, but they must be under 29 inches. This car seat comes with some of the most amazing features and the best part is you can find it for a reasonable price; it gives you the most bang for your buck.

Evenflo Embrace LX Infant Car Seat Review

The Evenflo Embrace LX Infant Seat is something that I highly recommend to parents. I am a parent to four kids, but I am also a certified child passenger safety technician, so I know quality when I see it. Evenflo has been around for years and they have made a name for themselves by selling high quality baby products that parents can count on. This car seat truly lives up to the name that Evenflo has created for themselves.

The Evenflo Embrace LX provides baby with a comfortable ride, but also comes equipped with features that parents are going to find highly useful. One of the features that parents find the most useful is the easy carrying handle. Most other car seats’ handles tend to scratch the arm or even dig into the skin because of the way they are designed. Not to mention that when carrying it by hand it tends to bang against the leg. The “Z” shaped handle allows for easy carrying and prevents the seat from banging into the legs. The five-point harness also provides parents with peace of mind that baby is secured in the car seat.

Pros:

  • Removable infant head pillow. The infant head pillow is needed for newborns because it helps hold their head in an upright position. Without the infant head support pillow baby tends to lean to one side or the other because they cannot support their head. The removable feature is nice because it creates more room as baby grows, but means it can also be used inside the stroller or something else that doesn’t have its own support pillow.
  • Easy to take in and out of the car. Once parents have the base installed into the car the base can stay there. The car seat is easier than others to take in and out of the car. To remove the car seat from the base all parents have to do is push the red bar at the back of the seat and it is free.
  • Level indicators and 3 position seat incline. The base of the car seat comes with two level indicators to help ensure that the base is secured properly. Once the base has been secured properly all a parent has to do is place the seat inside the base to determine that the base is still level. The base also has three different incline positions, so parents can recline younger infants while allowing older ones the chance to sit up and look around.
  • Can be used with or without the base. Parents can always order an extra base if they have more than one car that baby travels in. However, I didn’t want that extra expense, so I simply used the car seat without the base in the second vehicle. As long as it is installed correctly, the car seat itself can be used without the base and will still provide the same secure ride that the base provides.

Cons:

  • Shoulder strap and crotch strap are somewhat hard to adjust. Adjusting the shoulder straps so they come down over my baby’s shoulders rather than from underneath was a bit difficult to do. I had to pull quite hard to get them to move. I don’t mind the shoulder straps being hard to adjust because that means baby can’t accidentally move it out of place when driving down the road. The crotch strap is also difficult to adjust, but wasn’t much of a problem because it doesn’t have to be adjusted as often.

Like many other Evenflo products, the Evenflo Embrace meets or exceeds all of the United States safety standards, but also holds up to Evenflo’s side impact test standards. While this car seat doesn’t come with a lot of fancy extras parents can rest assured that the features it does come with are outstanding and help keep baby safe in the car. Its affordability and safety can’t be beat.

Price Alert: Right now Amazon.com is offering free shipping and a 11% discount for the Evenflo Embrace LX Infant Car Seat. This means their current price is $8.45 cheaper than the usual retail price.

Evenflo Discovery 5 Infant Car Seat Review

The Evenflo Discovery 5 Infant Car Seat is simply a great car seat. Evenflo has made a name for themselves in terms of baby gear and the way the car seat is designed it really does live up to the Evenflo name. One of the best things about this car seat is that it either meets or exceeds all of the United States Federal safety standards, but it also meets all of Evenflo’s side impact testing standards.

The Evenflo Discovery 5 comes with an ergonomic “Z” shaped handle to help make carrying easier. I have really enjoyed this handle because it no longer means contorting my arm to a funny position to prevent the car seat from knocking into my legs as I am walking down the street. The canopy is also a great feature because it helps protect baby from the harsh rays of the sun or even the blowing wind. In addition, I can move the canopy to any position that I want.

Pros:

  • Energy absorbing foam liner. Not only has the car seat been side impacted tested, it also comes with an energy absorbing liner. This liner is designed to take the force of the impact in a side collision helping to keep baby tucked safely in the car seat.
  • Easy to clean fabric. One thing that every parent knows is that messes are going to happen in a car seat; baby will spill something or even spit up all over the car seat. The fabric that the car seat is made from is so easy to clean; all you have to do is wipe it down. However, there will come a time when you have to take the cover out because it is just too dirty. The car seat cover is easy to take out and is machine washable.
  • “Z” Shaped handle. The handle’s “Z” Shape is something that is exclusive to Evenflo and it makes carrying the car seat so much easier. No longer do I have to place my hands just right on the handle nor do I have to worry about it crashing into my legs as I walk. The “Z” shape provides the perfect carrying natural feeling handle.
  • Can be used with or without the base. Like many other car seats, this one comes equipped with a base that stays inside the vehicle, so you can easily take the car seat in and out of the car. Even better is the fact that the car seat can also be used without the base, but you must make sure it is installed correctly.

Cons:

  • Canopy is not very big. While the pivoting canopy is a great idea for protecting baby from the elements I have found it to be a little on the small side. Currently that doesn’t affect my baby because she is small enough to be covered by the canopy, but once she grows, it can become a problem. However, what I intend to do there is place a blanket over the car seat to help keep her protected.

The Evenflo Discovery 5 Infant Car Seat lives up to the Evenflo name. This car seat provides you with everything that you need to keep baby safe, but not a ton of useless extras. As an added bonus this no frills car seat is offered at a very reasonable price.

Price Alert: Right now Amazon.com is offering free shipping for the Evenflo Discovery 5 Infant Car Seat.

Chicco Keyfit 30 Infant Car Seat and Base Review

For parents who are looking for a stylish infant car seat that allows their baby to travel safely the Chicco Keyfit 30 Infant Car Seat and Base is one of the best choices. This infant car seat is so safe that it has actually been rated one of the top infant car seats in America. As a mother of four young children and a certified child passenger safety technician I highly recommend this infant car seat to any new parents because of how safe it is, but also because of how easy it is to install.

Working with car seats on a regular basis, I know just how difficult some of them can be to install and in order for babies to be safe, the car seats must be installed correctly. The Chicco Keyfit 30 is rather simple to install and comes with a variety of tools that are designed to help parents tell when the car seat has been installed correctly. The Chicco Keyfit 30 comes with a spring-assisted level foot, a center-pull LATCH adjustment and bubble levels all designed to assist you in ensuring that the base of the car seat is installed correctly.

Another problem that many parents have is that their infants outgrow the infant car seats before they are even a year old. The Chicco Keyfit 30 can safely be used for infants up to 30 pounds. The five-point harness system is designed to keep baby safely tucked inside the car seat, but also comes with a center pull adjustment that can be done with one hand. Like many other infant car seats this one is designed to be easily taken out of the car and carried from one location to the next. The handle is ergonomically designed to make it easier to carry, while the canopy adjusts to various positions to help protect baby from any kind of weather.

Pros:

  • Energy-Absorbing Foam. The infant car seats interior is lined with “EPS” energy absorbing foam, which helps make the car seat safer during a collision. The foam is designed to provide impact protection if the car is struck from the side during a collision.
  • Comes equipped with a newborn insert. One of the biggest problems with infant seats is that they don’t fit newborns very well; the babies often look like they are falling down into the seat. This infant car seat is designed to keep even the smallest babies safe. The newborn infant insert that comes with the car seat is designed for use with babies who weigh from 4 to 11 pounds.
  • Removable seat padding and head support. The Chicco Keyfit 30 comes with removable seat padding and head support so parents can adjust the car seat to fit their child. Not all babies are going to be built the same, so having a car seat that can be customized ensures that it works properly for each child. Not to mention that going up to 30 pounds some of the padding will have to be removed in order for baby to properly fit into the car seat.
  • Fits perfectly in smaller cars. Parents looking for an infant car seat that will fit into a smaller car without taking up a ton of room this is one of the best choices. The reason for this is how narrow the car seat is; most infant seats are wide and come with an even wider base so they take up a good portion of the backseat. However, it is longer than other car seats bases so you want to ensure it won’t hang over the backseat to ensure it will install properly.

Cons:

  • Fabric gets kind of warm. The type of fabric used on this seat is very easy to clean, which is a huge bonus, but the fabric tends to get warm quickly in hot weather. With how warm the fabric gets some babies get uncomfortable because it heats them up as well.
  • Doesn’t fit on top of grocery carts. Many parents like to place their car seats on top of the grocery carts, so this can be a drawback. I prefer, for safety reasons to place my baby in the larger part of the cart, so it isn’t an issue for me. This car seat cannot be placed on top of the shopping carts safely because it doesn’t have the slits that other car seats have.

The Chicco Keyfit 30 is the perfect infant car seat for parents that are looking for a safe car seat that is easy to install. With a weight limit of 30 pounds, babies can be kept in the rear facing position for a longer period of time, no worries about them out growing the infant seat before they are ready to be placed in a forward position. It is a little on the pricier side, but the numerous safety features and the installing ease more than make up for it.

Price Alert: At the moment Amazon.com is offering free shipping and a 14% discount for the Chicco Keyfit 30 Infant Car Seat. This is a savings of $25.00 off the usual retail price.

Britax Chaperone Infant Carrier, Black/Silver Review

Retail Price: Varies based on product options
Amazon Price: View Sale Price

The Britax Chaperone Infant Carrier offers parents one of the safest car seats on the market. This car seat currently leads the industry in front, rear, and side impact protection due to their numerous safety features. This car seat, like all other infant seats, is designed as a rear-facing car seat and can fit babies from four to thirty pounds. The height limit of 32 inches is taller than any other infant seat, making this one of the best car seats around. Parents can rest assured that they will be able to use this car seat for at least the first year of their baby’s life.

The five-point harness is designed to keep baby securely in the seat, but also has many other features. The five-point harness can be adjusted to seven different height positions, which most car seats only offer four different height adjustments. The harness is also tangle free, so no more worrying about fighting the straps to ensure it is a proper fit. As an added bonus, the buckle can be placed in two different positions to ensure a snug and safe fit.

Pros:

  • Simple to install. This is probably one of the easiest car seats to install using either a seatbelt or LATCH. I have used it in several different cars and have the same ease of install in each car. The base comes with an easy to read indicator that allows you to easily determine if the seat was installed with the right level of incline. It also comes equipped with push-button lower LATCH connectors to make it simple to install with LATCH.
  • Side impact protection. The car seat comes with the energy absorbing foam to help protect baby during a side impact collision. However, this car seat also does much more than that to keep baby safe. With true side impact protection the car seat shields the baby from any vehicle intrusion, distributes the crash force, but also keeps the head, neck and spine aligned to help limit any injuries.
  • Anti-Rebound Bar. This bar is truly unique to the Britax car seats and while it might look like it gets in the way, it does not. This bar is designed to help keep the car seat stabilized in the event of a front or rear collision.
  • Built-in lock off. This lock off allows parents to secure the cars seat belt so that they base of the car seat and the seta itself doesn’t move more than an inch in any direction. This feature is designed to help keep the car seat in place in case of an accident. This also prevents the car seat from tipping over, as you see with other models when you take a sharp turn even if they are properly installed.
  • No rethread harness. Having to take the harness out every time an adjustment needs to be made is a nightmare. The Britax Chaperone allows you to easily make any adjustments without having to take the harness out. This includes having to adjust the height of the harness.
  • Height adjustment knob. To ensure that the car seat is at the proper angle and is in the proper position parents simply use the height adjustment knob to make any adjustments necessary.

Cons:

  • It is a bit heavier than other car seats. Parents who are going to be carrying baby to and from the car in the car seat will quickly notice how heavy this is, even with the handle that is designed to contour to the forearm to help make carrying the seat more comfortable. Even without baby in the seat, the car seat is rather heavy. However, to me this is a minor drawback to how safe the car seat is. The heaviness simply reassures me that the car seat is well built.

Although the Britax Chaperone is one the pricier side, it is definitely worth the expense. This car seat offers top of the line safety features, and it can be used with or without the base, as long as it is properly installed. I for one enjoy all of the safety features that this car seat has, but I also like how sturdy it feels, and I have never once regretted making this purchase.

Price Alert: Right now Amazon.com is offering free shipping and a 25% discount for the Britax Chaperone Infant Carrier. That is incredible savings of $57.50 off from the usual retail price.

Baby Trend Flex Loc Car Seat Skylar Review

The Baby Trend Flex Loc Car Seat is one of the highest rated car seats on the market today. As a parent of four children, I have had time to learn about numerous baby brands and Baby Trend to me is a top of the line brand. This car seat is designed to be used with infants that weigh between five and twenty-two pounds, but they must be shorter than 28.5 inches. Even with these height and weight restrictions, this car seat can be used by most babies until they are ready to go into a convertible car seat.

One of the best features this car seat has is the smooth carrying handle. The smooth design is great because it prevents the handle from scratching my arm up whenever I carry baby around, which I have had that problem with other car seats before. The car seat also has a five-point harness that helps to keep baby secure. However, the best part is how easy the harness is to adjust. Adjusting it is so easy it can be done with one hand.

Pros:

  • Boot cover. This car seat comes with a boot that secures onto the car seat, think of the boot as a car seat cover. This slides up over baby’s feet and covers almost the entire body. The boot is great because it provides that extra warmth in those colder months, but also helps keep baby comfortable.
  • Flex Loc Straps. One issue that some LATCH straps have is how stiff and rigid they are, making them hard to deal with. The Flex-Loc straps means that the straps at the base of the car seat are flexible rather than stiff making them easier to adjust and connect.
  • No harness rethreading needed. One of the worst features of infant car seats is adjusting the height of the straps because parents have to take the straps out and put them back in. The Baby Trend allows you to easily adjust the height of the car seat because the seat back adjusts rather than having the different slots. This means the harness stays in place while adjusting the seat back.
  • Height adjustable base. The base of the car seat must be installed correctly and in the correct position in order to keep baby safe. To help ensure everything is set up correctly the base has four different height positions, which are adjusted at the touch of a button. The base also comes with a level indicator to reassure you that the base is properly installed.
  • Energy Absorption foam. The car seat is lined with EPS energy absorption foam to help absorb the force of any side impact collision. The foam is predominately around the head area to help protect the head from being knocked side to side during a collision.

Cons:

  • Not as wide as other car seats. One thing that I noticed with this car seat is how narrow it is, which makes it a bit harder for bigger babies to fit. My children tend to be on the big side and they were able to use it, but didn’t have much room to wiggle. However, having the narrow car seat makes it easier to fit inside of cars when you have other car seats and kids.

The Baby Trend Flex Loc Car Seat provides parents with easy seat release, they simply use one hand, and the seat is out. The car seat is rated one of the top car seats on the market and lives up to the Baby Trend name. Even better is the fact that parents are getting all of these outstanding features at a price they can afford.

Price Alert: Currently Amazon.com is offering free shipping and a generous 18% discount for the Baby Trend Flex Loc Car Seat Skylar. This means you’ll save $10.00 from the usual retail price.
